What a difference a day makes…

Yesterday this was the view

and this morning

but that aside we decided on a plan of action. We headed off to the York Road Loop Track which is listed as a 3 hour walk around the railway line and workings for the quarrying of the rock for the New Plymouth port and roads in the Taranaki region. The remains of the crusher, railway tracks and workings make this a great walk, with plenty to see. It is an easy walk and took us just over 2 hours to complete the circuit.

From there the weather was packing up again so we decided to head up to Dawson Falls via Stratford and fish and chips for lunch!

We would see what was happening to the weather and I promised another batch of date scones for afternoon tea.

I spied this on the road into/out of Stratford and couldn’t resist stopping for a photo op.

When we got to Dawson Falls the weather was pretty crappy so we hunkered down for the afternoon with the heaters going and our books out! After date scones for afternoon tea as promised and a lovely chicken stir fry with rice, an early night was had.

This morning the weather was blowing gusty but we had glimpses of the mountain so we decided that as we had come this far we would wander the 10 mins down to see the Dawson Falls.

On the way back to the busses we stopped at the tiny little power station that is used to feed some of the requirements of the lodge and area.

It is one of the oldest working power stations around.

Once back at the bus the view had changed again!

At this point It was time to say goodbye to Brenda and Roger. Their time was up and they were heading off home via the Forgotten Highway and I am heading off to……

Well I got as far as Hawera and am currently parked up in glorious sunshine at the NZMCA park there.

My thanks again must go to Brenda and Roger for a great two weeks, its always neat travelling with them, I am constantly learning stuff and we all seem to get on well together. I now know how to adjust the clutch on the Fredrock Cafe, as it started to slip and Roger and I crawled underneath and he showed me how to adjust it!

Safe journey home and safe journey to you all out there…..
